The Adventure Begins

You never know where life is going to take you if you’re up for the adventure!

For us, that adventure began 8 years ago when we decided to move away from our hometown of St. Louis to create a new life for ourselves in Kansas City. In those early years we worked hard by day to become established in our new careers. In our free time, we made it a priority to get out as often as possible and explore the many incredible sites and activities that Kansas City has to offer. What we quickly discovered was that the more we explored, the more connected we became within our new community and the closer we grew in relationship with one another.

As time passed, our adventures as a couple began to expand beyond Kansas City. We visited bucket-list destinations throughout the continental United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. Every time we traveled, we returned home with incredible memories, stronger bonds, and a deeper appreciation for – and connection to – the world around us.

We were officially hooked!

Exploring the World With Kids

When the time finally came for us to start a family of our own, the thought of “settling down” and abandoning our adventurous lifestyle never once crossed our minds. Within 6 months of giving birth to each of our boys, we were already back to our international travels. Only this time what we discovered was that our adventures actually became even more fulfilling with kids!

If you ask us, one of the greatest aspects of parenthood is getting to experience the world through the eyes of a child. Everything is so new and exciting to them, and their energy and enthusiasm for life is contagious (if not exhausting…)! As we’ve explored new destinations as a family these past few years, it’s been amazing getting to watch our boys interact with the world around them. Unlike most adults, kids approach life from a standpoint of curiosity rather than fear. They are eager to learn from every experience. And they often find ways to make the best of a situation, no matter how stressful or mundane it may be.

Through traveling with our boys and seeing how freely they live their lives, we’ve been inspired by their example and now seek a more unfettered life for our entire family. The logical next step? Sell everything, travel the world full-time, and see what new and exciting adventures life brings our way!

So that’s where things stand now. If we’re being 100% honest, we have absolutely no clue where this journey will ultimately take us. But we couldn’t be more excited for all the incredible memories we will make along the way!

Thanks again for joining us!

Meet the Fam

Scott

Hi! I’m Scott, and I’m the “ideas guy” in the family. Seriously, if you leave me alone with my thoughts for too long, I’ll likely come up with some crazy idea like selling it all to become a nomad – and you see where that got us!

But in all honesty, having spent the majority of my adult life working with adolescents as a high school counselor, travel has always existed as an emotional outlet for me. Whether I was personally out exploring the world, planning our next big adventure, or creating fun and exciting trips for others – being able to lose myself in the world of travel is often what’s kept me going when I’ve felt like I have nothing left to give. So now that we get to do it full-time, it’s like a dream come true for me, and I’m excited to share our experiences and insights along the way in hopes of inspiring other families to get out and travel the world with kids as well.

Genevieve

Hi, I’m Genevieve, and I’m the proud mom and artistic guru of the family. As a graphic designer, I love that I can work from anywhere and use my creativity to help others and make the world a better place. I’m a “people person” by nature, and one of the things I love most about traveling is getting to spend quality time with my boys, which is something I don’t get to do as often as I’d like in the midst of everyday life.

Another thing that excites me about travel is getting to meet people from all around the world and develop lasting friendships that span the globe. One particular contribution I look forward to making to the blog is a series that tells the stories of some of the amazing people we meet throughout our travels. After all, I truly believe that relationships are a big part of what makes traveling the world so powerful.

Ethan

Hey! I’m Ethan, and I’ll be turning 5 in June. As the first-born in the family, I like to think of myself as the leader of this crew (although I still don’t quite understand why my parents don’t seem to agree with me on this one). Like a lot of kids my age I have a ton of energy, and one of my favorite ways to burn that off is by playing soccer, which I’ve gotten pretty good at over the years. I’ve also begun to explore my artistic side a little more lately, and I’m beginning to take a lot more interest in fun creative activities like art, music, and dancing.

But to be completely honest, one of my favorite things of all is learning. I love to read, and I could spend all day doing activity workbooks if my mom and dad would let me. And speaking of learning, when it comes to our travels, one of the things I’m most excited about is getting to have the entire world as my classroom!

Benjamin

Hey! I’m Benjamin, and I’m the baby of the family. I like to think of myself as a fun-loving goofball who doesn’t take life too seriously. Those who know me best would agree that there’s never a dull moment when I’m around! I have an outgoing personality, I’ll carry on a conversation with anyone, and I have a great imagination that can keep me (and apparently everyone else) entertained for days.

In my two-and-a-half years on Earth, I’ve always looked up to my big brother, and I pretty much love anything that he thinks is cool. Unfortunately, he hasn’t always felt the same way about me – but I think I’ve finally started to wear him down. Lately, as we’ve been traveling more as a family, Ethan’s actually started to invite me to play with him, so I consider that a win! I’m thinking by the time we head out on this next big adventure we’ll be best buddies for sure.
